Helping Hands kick off annual campaign to help local families

Oct 30, 2017 | 9:17 AM

Halloween is just around the corner, but the Helping Hands Grande Prairie are already prepping for Christmas.

The group helped an estimated 300 people last year, and one of the founding members Adina LaLonde is committed to providing aid to families who need it.

“The program essentially doesn’t operate without donations from local businesses and community members,” she said.

“It’s all about giving back, and putting smiles and hope into families who might otherwise not get that opportunity throughout the year.”

The organization has grown tremendously, and they are always looking for more volunteers.

“It blew up. It’s a very large, little charity organization … We have a large volume come the holiday season,” she said.

The group, in their fifth year, are also looking for a storage space to operate out of this year.

“We’ve been using our homes and other people’s homes, and kind of transferring things everywhere,” she said.

“It’ll be easier for us to keep it in one space. With the volume we had last year, the space is crucial to us. It just makes for easier operating.”
