Tree of Hope to be lit Saturday

Nov 24, 2017 | 3:22 PM

An event born from tragedy will spread the value of community in Grande Prairie this Christmas.

Wes L’Hirondelle began the Annual lighting of the Tree of Hope last year, after his father suffered a stroke and his sister passed away.

L’horindelle wants to ensure everyone feels their spirits rise at this time of year.

“It is a special time this year. My mother, who is a big supporter, passed away unexpectedly. So we’re going to be doing a tribute,” said L’Hrondelle.

It will feature a tree lighting ceremony, a blessing by an elder, children’s choirs and a speech by Councillor Eunice Friesen.

“It’ll be a great opportunity to come meet your neighbours … It’s all about bringing everyone together,” said L’Hrondelle.

“I’m trying to bring back (the idea of) all of us together who live in the city.”

The tree is lit up in the Highland Park neighbourhood at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2017.
