Windrow clearing pilot program officially begins

Nov 30, 2017 | 11:00 AM

The newly-approved windrow clearing pilot project has begun.

City council budgeted for the new program using reserves, and City Transportation Services Manager Robert Carroll hopes people are patient as everyone figures out how things work.

“It’s going to be a quick job on the driveways, just enough so people don’t get stranded in their driveways,” he said.

“People have been loud and clear about their dislike of our last system where 8,500 driveways got windrows.”

Carroll says they will have to work to figure out the best way to get the job done.

“It’s going to be an additional piece of equipment with each team that we have in our residential areas right now,” he said.

Right now, there are a grater and an angle blade loader, and they’re trying to figure out what piece to add.

“It a lot of times depends on the area you’re in … It’ll follow the other two and clear off the driveways.”

Instead of leaving a windrow in the driveway now, the snow will be dumped on the front of the properties

The official start date is December 1, although some driveways have already been cleared with the new method.
