Leslie puts pen to paper with GPRC Wolves

Dec 12, 2017 | 4:09 PM

Despite only being halfway through the 2017-2018 campaign, the GPRC female basketball team has announced their first commitment for the 2018-2019 season.

The GPRC wolves announced Sophie Leslie, who currently plays with the Charles Spencer Mavericks, has committed to the team for next year.

” She plays with a tremendous amount of poise for her age, and she is really competitive, and I think that will bring a lot to our team next year,” stated GPRC Women’s Basketball Coach Mandy Botham.

Leslie is a player which Botham and her staff have been keeping an eye on for quite some time as she is a top player in the city.

” In a couple of days, she was really on my radar. It has been more of waiting for an opportunity for her high school season to start so I could have the chance to watch her play in person.”

When it comes to the rest of the recruitment for next year, Botham expects to be busy.

” I’m looking to fill a lot of spots on the roster next season. A big part of my recruiting strategy is looking at local kids. In Nothern Alberta, BC, and the Peace area. Even if that means a little extra work developing them. I just feel strongly that the local kids should get a shot. “

The GPRC female basketball team will return to the floor on January 12th, 2018 when they host TKU.
