Clean up underway at Grande Prairie Airport

Feb 10, 2018 | 6:00 AM

While residents of the swan city have been digging themselves out of the immense amount of snow which we received over the last week, so has the staff at the Grande Prairie Airport.

Director of Operations at the GP Airport, Doug Mark, explained the 50 plus centimetres of snow created some challenges.

” Our maintenance crews shifted to around the clock maintenance activities concentrating on our priority one areas the runway, and taxiing area to keep a safe surface for the aircrafts to operate in and out of during the second snowfall which we did have. “

Now that snow has tapered off, for the time being, Mark says the airport has now moved into clean-up mode.

” We are cleaning behind the runway lights. Making sure the navigation aids are all clear. We have big snow blowers out here. We windrow it up and blow it out into the field areas at the airport. “

Mark concluded by saying the airport has a snow plan in place for when an immense amount of snow falls in a short period of time, and it worked to a tee this past week.
