This area will be busy for several years says Beaupre

County of Grande Prairie Reeve Leanne Beaupre talked about roads and budgets today at a Rotary Club of Grande Prairie lunch.

She says part of the reason the County puts so much into roads and bridges is to, quote, “handle the growth that is coming.”

“Everyone that drives the roads in the City of Grande and outside (the city) and Highway 40 sees the volume of traffic that’s on them. We know that this area is going to be busy for several years, so we need to make sure that we plan adequately for that.”

She adds growth will come from all sectors.

“The energy sector and I believe that forestry is going to see some good growth as well. They certainly are planning for more work and they have a more stable market, I think. Farmers, from year-to-year you never know because of the weather situation, but they’re the most optimistic people I know.”

Beaupre says it is important to pressure the province to put money into roads.
