Calgary’s Naheed Nenshi to meet with IOC officials

PYEONCHANG- Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says meetings with the International Olympic Committee will lead to a better-informed decision on whether the city will make a bid to host the Winter Olympics.

Nenshi, who has travelled to South Korea, says Calgary has the ability to host the games but the more important question is whether it should.

He says he feels the IOC is serious about reforms to its bidding process, which is helping him feel more comfortable about the situation.

Calgary has until the end of June to make a decision on a formal bid.

It’s estimated that hosting the games could cost $4.6 billion, as Calgary plans to re-use some of the facilities from the 1988 Olympics.
