Man killed and child critically injured in crash

Feb 14, 2018 | 11:00 AM

A man has died, and a child has been critically injured in a motor vehicle collision in Peace River Tuesday.

Just before 8:40 p.m. yesterday evening, Peace Regional RCMP and Emergency Medical Services responded to the collision on Highway 2, near the west end of the Peace River Bridge deck.

Police say a tractor-trailer collided head-on with a minivan and then a car.

The man who died was the driver of the minivan.  His female passenger was transported to local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

An 11-year-old child who was the passenger of the car was taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton in critical condition.  The driver of the car was also transported to an Edmonton hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

After the crash, both lanes of Highway 2 were closed temporarily. The 90th Street underpass below Hwy 2 remains closed.

RCMP say they are in the process of notifying the next of kin and the identity of the individuals involved will not be released out of respect for their families.

Peace Regional RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate.
