Bow back in the ring this weekend in Stony Plain

The 2018 Alberta Boxing Provincials are this weekend in Stony Plain and athletes from Grande Prairie will be taking part in the event.

This includes Damya Bow, the only youth competitive girl on the team in Grande Prairie.

She explained how she got into the sport.

” It was inspired by my dad. When I was really young I started hitting the bag and then when I grew up a little bit I started taking boxing classes and now I’m on the team. “

Training for boxing is unlike any other sport, and Bow acknowledges that it’s a ton of hard work.

” We do drills. We practice getting into different situations and trying to get out of them. ” 

Two weeks ago Bow competed in B.C provincials, and ahead of provincials in Alberta, she shared that she had some butterflies.

” I’m pretty nervous. I just have to try my best, train hard, keep weight, and stay motivated. As soon as I’m not motivated it just goes downhill from there. “
