Anticipated snowfall misses Grande Prairie, warning now ended

Mar 23, 2018 | 2:35 PM

The snowfall warning has now ended for the Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, and Valleyview regions.

Environment Canada issued a winter storm watch Wednesday morning and upgraded it to a snowfall warning Wednesday afternoon.

The heaviest of the snow missed Grande Prairie and fell mostly to the north, near Rycroft and Peace River.

Total snowfall in Grande Prairie Thursday was 0.2 cm, compared to 1.4 cm in Peace River.

The snowfall warning has now also ended for Peace River, Fairview, High Prairie and Manning.

As of Friday afternoon, the M.D. of Fairview was not recommending travel on roads in the area.  This is due to snow drifts and some roads completely blocked with snow.

The Fairview airport is also closed until further notice.
