Coffee for Humboldt first responders

Apr 10, 2018 | 6:18 AM

A local Primary Care Paramedic is looking to rally up support from emergency services and the public to let the first responders of the Humboldt Broncos Bus crash know Grande Prairie is here to support them.

Jessica Frith has teamed up with Calorado Hudkins who owns True Heroes Coffee Co. Ltd. to send special packages to Saskatchewan.

They are collecting monetary donations to send coffee, cappuccino and hot chocolate to 26 agencies that were in direct contact with the patients.

“I’m from a small town and know how everyone bands together in the wake of tragedies like this. Being a first responder has also given me that extra view of just how devastating this accident was and has me very aware of the support that these fine men and women will be requiring in the upcoming days, weeks, months, and years to come,” Firth said in a Facebook post.

The packages will be sent to several dispatch centres, RCMP detachments, three STARS helicopters, and fixed wing air ambulances from Alberta and Saskatchewan as well as hospitals in Saskatoon, Tisdale, and Nipawin. Any proceeds left over will be donated to the TEMA Memorial Trust & Wounded Warriors and the GoFundMe account that was set up for the families of the victims.

She says coffee is something so many of us sit around and bond over and she thought this was a good way to show the first responders that we are here for them.

If people want to send personal messages of support with the coffee they can do that as well, she says.

Frith knows from her own experiences as a first responder how much it means when someone is appreciative of the work they do.

“For myself, there’s been a number of calls where it’s been in the media and you can’t escape social media these days.  And you see those comments of people from the public, that aren’t in emergency services saying, ‘thank you’ and those (comments) really help get you through that.”
