Changes for County campground fees

Apr 12, 2018 | 5:03 PM

County of Grande Prairie Council has approved some changes to camping fees.

The cost for group bookings at all campgrounds except Pipestone will be lowered.

“We just wanted to encourage group bookings at some of the sites where perhaps there isn’t a designated group area,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Christine Rawlins.  “So, if someone were to book multiple sites, then there would be a progressive discount for five to 20 per cent, depending on the site they would be reserving on behalf of other friends or family members.”

Rawlins says because costs for things like maintenance and firewood are going up, the fee for a single overnight camping spot will go up by a dollar.

The changes were approved by County Council at Monday’s meeting.

County camping fees for 2018 will be as follows:

– Bear Lake Campground non-powered individual sites – $26 per night

– Demmitt Campground non-powered individual sites – $20 per night

– Hommy Campground individual powered sites – $36 per night

– Kleskun Hill Campground non-powered individual sites – $26 per night

– Pipestone Creek Campground

Individual sites – $26 per night

Powered individual sites – $36 night

Powered group site – $300 per night

            Non-powered group site – $125 night
