Anarchy return after one-year absence

Apr 16, 2018 | 12:32 PM

After taking a year off, the Northern Anarchy women’s football team is back this year.

President Lori Szmul says they are busy recruiting players and will take anybody who shows up.

“As long as you’re 16. Our players right now range from 16 to mid-40s. We have some ladies out there that are just amazing.”

She adds they do what they can to accommodate the players.

“We have people that come, they bring their kids to practices. We have people that are working, so we let them come one time a week instead of two. We’re ready to accommodate anyone who would like to try this game because we love to empower women in sport and we love to be part of a league that encompasses Western Canada

The new season for the Western Women’s Canadian Football League starts May 5. The Anarchy are scheduled to host the Edmonton Storm at CKC Field.

Szmul says they play CFL rules in the WWCFL.

“We have coaches that play on the Drillers. We have coaches that have coached minor football and high school football, so we have a full range of coaches.”

The Anarchy practice every Monday and Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the Crosslink County Sportsplex.
