City and County hosting annual Earth Day today

Apr 21, 2018 | 6:00 AM

The Earth Day Community Celebration and Tradeshow will be hosted today by the City and County of Grande Prairie.

Technical Services Manager for the County of Grande Prairie Jennifer Besinger said this year’s event will have a Bats, Bees, Birds and Trees theme and will feature a number of activities for all ages.

“There is a multitude of events and things to do for kids. We are going to be doing handfills which is a demonstration of how a landfill is developed and the efforts put forth to protect the environment with the landfills.”

Besinger says they are inviting all ages to Teresa Sargent Hall this afternoon.

“There will be draws for a composter and a digester so that the organics can go into your backyard instead of into the landfill. There is going to some bat houses, how to make a bat house so that everybody has a home. I think there is going to be some neat opportunities for the children and adults alike.”

Earth Day festivities are taking place at the Teresa Sargent Hall in the Montrose Cultural Centre today from noon until 4 p.m. Admission is free.
