Emergency land flood alert for Rycroft

Apr 23, 2018 | 6:25 AM

An emergency land flood alert has been issued for Rycroft.

According to the alert, there is “a large amount of water travelling across land, leading to localized flooding in low lying areas. Water is flowing over several roads and streets in the Village of Rycroft and surrounding area. Drainage ditches are flowing at capacity.”

Residents there are being asked to not travel or cross roads that are under water and to keep away from fast flowing water.

It says basement flooding and sewer backups are possible and residents should do what they can to minimize the amount of water flowing into the sewage system.

The RCMP has been going to door to door to find out if residents need assistance, while drivers are being urged to stay off flooded streets.

Roadblocks have been set up at three locations.

Culverts are open and working but a statement from the Central Peace Regional Emergency Management Agency says a large volume of water is travelling across land and drainage ditches are at capacity.
