Storm snap losing skid against Mustangs

Jan 19, 2018 | 10:01 PM

There is no place like home.

This statement couldn’t be more true for the Grande Prairie Storm.

The hockey club returned to the friendly confines of Revolution Place Friday night following a lengthy stretch on the road and snapped their three-game losing streak thanks to a 3-2 win over the Calgary Mustangs.

Grande Prairie would open the scoring off a nifty little passing play which would be finished off by Dallas Comeau. The goal would be Comeau’s 16th of the campaign to vault the Storm to a 1-0 lead.

Just three minutes later the Mustangs would even up the affair on the man advantage as Calgary Captain Salvator Scalise clapped a bomb from the blue line off the crossbar and into the back of the net to even the game at 1.

The fast-paced action would resume in the middle stanza, and it wouldn’t take long for the Storm to regain their lead.

Dallas Comeau would pick up the biscuit at his own blue line and flip a beautiful pass to Zachary Okabe on a breakaway where the rookie would make no mistake and slip it into the back of the net to make it 2-1 Grande Prairie.

Calgary would receive a lengthy 5 on 3 power play following the Okabe marker, but the Storm penalty kill forced the Mustangs to the outside, limited their chances, and killed off the extended power play.

The Mustangs would tie up the contest late in the second period on a broken play as Brady Barclay found Ryley Smith wide open at the side of the goal for a tap in to tie the game at 2.

The game-winner would come midway through the 3rd period, and it was a new face playing hero.

Jared Power would receive the pass from Dallas Comeau on Grande Prairie’s 2nd power play of the night at the side of the goal and would go upstairs to lift the Storm to a 3-2 advantage.

Calgary would push for the equalizer, but Grande Prairie would shut them down the rest of the way and earn a 3-2 victory.

With the win, the Storm snap their three-game losing streak and improve to 20-20-3 on the year.

They will look to make it back to back wins Saturday night at home when they welcome the Lloydminster Bobcats.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. from Revolution Place.
