Quebec Remparts expected to bring back former coach and GM Patrick Roy
QUEBEC — The Quebec Remparts have called a news conference on Thursday amid speculation that goaltending great Patrick Roy will return to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League club.
Roy acted as part-owner, coach and general manager of the Remparts from 2005 to 2013, winning a Memorial Cup in 2006. He has been out of hockey since acting as coach and vice-president of hockey operations for the Colorado Avalanche from 2013 to 2016.
Talk of the 52-year-old Roy returning to the Remparts began two weeks ago when Philippe Boucher resigned as coach and GM. Roy has since been spotted at QMJHL playoff games.
The Quebec City native was a fiery presence behind the bench during is tenure with the Remparts, where he maintained a .640 regular season winning percentage in 544 games.
