City hosting Youth Engagement Awards on Tuesday

Apr 29, 2018 | 6:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie is hosting the annual Youth Engagement Awards and open mic event on Tuesday.

Community Development Co-ordinator Tammy Wentzell said the get together is part of the National Youth Week which runs from May 1-7.

“Our Youth Council has been involved in organizing the Youth Engagement Awards since 2014, during this week. They did this to recognize individuals in business that play a positive role in the development of youth.”

Wentzell adds the awards are presented to businesses, schools and community agencies that exhibit a positive role in youth development. This year there are four categories.

“We have four awards this year. The first one we are giving out is Employer of Choice, the second one is Community Engagement Award, the third one is the Youth Friendly Business of Choice Award and the last one is the Youth Mentor of Choice.”

There will also be an open mic night where residents of all ages can participate in the forum along with youth involvement.

The event takes place at the Teresa Sergent Hall in Montrose Cultural Centre from 7 to 9 p.m on May 1. Admission is free.
