Magical playoff run ends for Yaremko & Americans

May 1, 2018 | 5:50 AM

The lengthy and unexpected playoff run for Spirit River product Nolan Yaremko and the Tri-City Americans came to a close Monday night in Kennewick Washington as the Everett Silvertips claimed game six 6-5 in overtime.

Everett won the series 4-2 and earned the Western Conference Championship.

The Americans weren’t expected to do much in the 2018 WHL playoffs based off their positioning going into the post-season.

Tri-City held down the 2nd Wild Card position due to the U.S division being so highly contested.

As a result, they battle the Kelowna Rockets in the first round of the playoffs, the top seed in the entire Western Conference.

However, they proved the critiques wrong by eliminating the Rockets in just four games.

In the 2nd round, the Americans eliminated the Victory Royals in just four games as well.

It was also a solid postseason for Nolan Yaremko.

The 19-year-old compiled 7 goals and 8 assists in 14 playoff games.

The Everett Silvertips will move on to face the Swift Current Broncos in the WHL Final which is set to begin on Friday in Swift Current.
