Excelsiors down Mountaineers to move to 2-0; Adanacs beat Raiders at Minto Cup

CALGARY — Jeffrey Teat had a hat trick and three assists as the Brampton Excelsiors downed the Calgary Mountaineers 15-3 on Friday to move to 2-0 at the Minto Cup.

Austin Hasen had a goal and five helpers and Clarke Petterson also had six points (two goals, four assists) for Brampton at the junior A lacrosse championship.

The Excelsiors’ Brendan Welsh added a hat trick of his own and an assist, while Justin Sykes had three goals. Tyler McKay also potted two goals and had three helpers while Jake Boudreau added a goal and three assists.

Laszlo Henning, Jake Foster and Graeme Stokes also found the back of the net for Calgary.

Brampton’s Steven Orleman stopped 25 of 28 shots for the win and Laine Hruska made 46 saves on 61 shots.

The Mountaineers opened with a 16-1 loss to the Coquitlam Adanacs in the first game of the tournament Thursday night. While Brampton dominated the Okotoks Raiders 25-8.

In other action, the Adanacs are also off to a 2-0 start after a 12-7 win over the Raiders.

Chase Scanlan paced Coquitlam with a hat trick and six points, while Larson Sundown (four points), Colin Munro (five points) and Dennon Armstrong (three points) each had two goals.

William Clayton, Jalen Chaster and Dylan Foulds (five points) added singles for the Adanacs.

Carter Brand led Calgary with two goals and three assists, while Tyler Sonnichsen (four points) and Brett McIntyre (four points) also had two goals apiece. Zach Mantei added a single.

Christian Del Bianco made 33 saves on 40 shots in the win for Coquitlam. Elijah Uema-Martin took the loss with 43 saves on 50 shots, while Jack Bruzell-Friesz also made 10 stops on 15 shots.
