Crusaders stump Storm on Teddy Bear Toss night

Dec 2, 2018 | 7:36 AM

It wasn’t the result the Grande Prairie Storm would have liked in their return to Revolution Place on Teddy Bear Toss night Saturday as they fell to the Sherwood Park Crusaders 6-1.

The Storm were behind the eight ball early as the Crusaders hopped out to a 1-0 lead just a minute and a half into the first period.

Despite being down early, the Storm carried the pace 5 on 5 in the opening 20 minutes but could not find the back of the net.

The middle stanza wouldn’t go as well for the Storm as they allowed three Crusaders goals, including 2 of them on the man advantage.

Heading into the third, the Storm trailed 4-0 and the fans at Revolution Place were starting to become restless as they were waiting for the home side to score their first goal of the game so they could chuck their Teddy Bears on the ice.

However, midway through the 3rd period they would get their wish as Jonathon Hader ripped a shot high over the blocker of Matt Berlin and into the back of the net.

The Crusaders would add two more late in the frame and claim the contest 6-1.

With the loss, the Storm drop to 14-15-1 on the season.

They will look to get back in the win column Friday when they head to Camrose for a meeting with the Kodiaks.
