Storm steal home ice advantage with Game 1 win over MOB

Mar 8, 2019 | 5:57 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm have taken a 1-0 series lead in their AJHL 1st round series with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

The Storm earned a 4-2 win in the opening game of the best of five series to steal home ice advantage away from the MOB.

Despite getting down 1-0 in the 1st minute, the Storm would rattle off three unanswered goals in the opening frame.

Captain Connor Blake, Xavier Pouliot and Zach Webb would vault the visitors to a 3-1 advantage after 20 minutes of play.

The lone goal of the middle stanza came from the Oil Barons as Jarred White found the back of the net on the man advantage to get back to within one.

However, this was as close as the Oil Barons would come in Game 1 as Connor Blake would ice the game near the midway point of the 3rd period with his 2nd of the night to make it 4-2 Storm.

The Storm also out shot the Oil Barons 37-27 in the win.

Grande Prairie now leads the series 1-0 and will look to try and take a stranglehold on the series as they battle Fort McMurray in Game 2 Friday night.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
