Seniors' Week

Free bus service for Seniors’ Week

May 28, 2019 | 6:08 PM

Seniors’ Week takes place in Alberta annually during the first week of June. In celebration, Oliver’s Funeral Home is participating by offering free bus trips to seniors on June 3 to attend the weeks kick-off event at Revolution Place.

Seniors’ Week is designated by the provincial government so Albertans can show appreciation to seniors and all that they contribute to the community.

“In the past, we have hosted an event for Seniors’ Week but we were finding that there are so many events hosted for Seniors’ Week in Grande Prairie, that we thought maybe a better approach would be to make it easier for seniors to get to those events,” says Alia Paetkau, Marketing for Oliver’s Funeral Home.

Oliver’s has sponsored five busses to service the transportation of seniors to the Seniors Fair at Revolution Place.

Busses will run throughout the City, the County of Grande Prairie, Hythe, Beaverlodge, Wembley, and La Glace.

“We’re getting seniors to that [Fair] and home again and covering the cost. It makes it easier for them to get there and find out what’s going on in Grande Prairie and surrounding area that week.”

Paetkau notes that it important for Oliver’s to get involved.

“We just think that seniors are a really important part of our community and it’s just kind of our way to thank them and give them some respect.”
