With the election four weeks out, Elections Canada says pre-register to save yourself time

A reminder from Elections Canada that you need to be registered in order to be able to vote in the upcoming Federal Election.

Spokesperson Leanne Nyirfa says there are several ways that you can register.

“You can go online to check out the voter registration service at www.elections.ca. You can also register by mail, again going to elections.ca website. And you can register at any Elections Canada office anytime.”

You can also register when you vote, although Nyirfa strongly encourages you to pre-register in order to save yourself time at the polls.

According to Elections Canada, only 70 percent of Canadians in the 18-34 age group are currently registered to vote in this fall’s election, which is just four weeks away.

Nyirfa adds there are four different ways that a Canadian citizen over the age of 18 can vote.

“On election day itself on October 21st, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The second option is at advanced polls, which will be held from Friday, October 11th to Monday, October 14th. The locations of the advanced polls have not been announced yet but will be announced shortly.”

You can also cast your vote at any Elections Canada office, or apply online before October 15th to vote by mail.

When you vote, you must present one piece of government-issued photo ID, or two pieces of ID that include your name and current address on it.

A full list of allowable ID items can be found online at www.elections.ca
