Masks mandatory on all City of Grande Prairie buses starting Sept. 1

Aug 21, 2020 | 5:04 PM

The City of Grande Prairie announced on Friday that as of September 1, masks will be mandatory on all city transit buses.

The city says the goal is to ensure people continue to feel confident and comfortable in the safety of transit services, as ridership will increase because of kids going back to school.

They add that it is another measure to protect the health and wellbeing of all transit users and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community.

Masks exemptions have been made for the following:

  • Anyone with an underlying medical condition or disability which inhibits the ability to wear a mask or face covering.
  • Persons unable to place or remove a mask or face covering without assistance.
  • Any children under the age of five.
  • Employees working behind a physical barrier or within areas designated for employees and not for public access.
  • Police, city employees, or first responders in emergency situations.

The city says that it thanks all transit users for their understanding and co-operation
