Riverstone Public School placed under COVID-19 outbreak status

Mar 8, 2021 | 5:25 PM

Outbreaks of COVID-19 are now being declared at 10 Grande Prairie schools, as Riverstone Public School was added to Alberta Health’s outbreak list on Monday.

The move means between five and nine cases have been identified within individuals from the school.

Other schools in Grande Prairie under an outbreak status include Aspen Grove, École Nouvelle Frontière, Swanavon and St. John Paul II Catholic School – all of which are reporting 10 or more cases.

St Catherine, Grande Prairie Composite High School, Charles Spencer High School, École Montrose, and Alexander Forbes are all reporting between five and nine cases.

Five other schools are listed under an alert status (with between two and four cases confirmed at the school), including Harry Balfour, St. Clement, Ecole St. Gerard, Hillside Community School and Grande Prairie Christian School.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, says 251 schools in Alberta are under at least an active alert status, which accounts for about 10 per cent of all schools in the province. Among those schools, there have been 961 cases since January 11.
