Grande Prairie dips below 100 active COVID-19 cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases and 30 recoveries for March 4 to March 6. There are 95 active cases in the city.

The County of Grande Prairie recorded 10 new COVID-19 cases and 15 recoveries for the same three-day period. There are now 94 active cases in the county.

Over the weekend, Alberta added 1,113 new cases from 6,182 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 18.0 per cent. There are currently 7,158 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of March 7 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 95 active (-15)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 94 active (-5)
  • MD of Greenview: 40 active (-4)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 12 active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: three active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 97 active (-21)
  • MD of Fairview: 37 active (-7)
  • MD of Smoky River: eight active (+3)
  • Big Lakes County: 76 active (+1)
  • Clear Hills County: five active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: six active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: eight active (+2)
  • Mackenzie County: 56 active (-15)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease to 1,103 (down 61), while 77 of those patients are in the ICU (same).

In the North Zone, 132 people are in hospital (down four), six of whom are in the ICU (up one).

There were 18 COVID-19 related deaths reported in the province over the weekend, bringing the province’s death toll to 3,972.

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.6 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
