Storm, NWJHL seasons open Friday night

The puck drops for the start of the regular season Friday night for the Grande Prairie Storm.

They are in Spruce Grove for a 7 p.m. face-off before another 7 p.m. face-off Saturday night in Sherwood Park.

The Storm finished the 2022-23 regular season with a 19-33-5-3 record and in seventh place in the North Division. They lost in the first round of the playoffs.

The home opener will take place September 22 against Drayton Valley.

It is also opening weekend for the Northwest Junior Hockey League.

There are three games Friday night with the Wheat Kings in Fairview, Sexsmith in Beaverlodge, and Fort St. John in Dawson Creek. All start at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Wheat Kings in Beaverlodge, Fairview at Dawson Creek, Fort St. John at Sexsmith, and La Crete in Peace River. All those games also start at 8 p.m.

Sunday, La Crete in Peace River for a 12:15 p.m. face-off.
