Rain lowers wildfire hazard to moderate

Sep 29, 2023 | 2:31 PM

Environment Canada says Grande Prairie recorded 12.7 millimeters of rain on Thursday.

Grande Prairie has had a total of 18 millimeters of rain this month, compared to 49.6 in September of last year and 29.4 in September of 2021.

The rain means the wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Forest Area is down to moderate.

It still has eight active fires, all of which are under control.

There have been 69 wildfires so far this year that have burned over 141,000 hectares.
