RCMP MDU several month drug investigation leads to arrest

Following a several-month-long drug investigation by the Grande Prairie RCMP Municipal Drug Unit has led to one arrest.

On September 22, RCMP MDU executed a search warrant at a residence in Grande Prairie, seizing a number of illegal substances:

  • 6.5 kilograms of methamphetamine (229.2 ounces)
  • 945 grams of cocaine (33.3 ounces)
  • 1 gram of fentanyl
  • 25 kilograms of suspected buffing agent

As a result of the search, A 23-year old Grande Prairie resident, Zachary Edwards-Swanson, is facing three charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking: Cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking: Methamphetamine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking: Fentanyl

Following a judicial hearing Swanson was remanded into custody with a court date set for October 2.

Edwards-Swanson was one of five people charged earlier this year after what police called a million-dollar drug bust in November of 2021. He is due back in Edmonton court on those charges on October 6.

In 2019, he was given a one-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking. This was related to a drug seizure in August of 2018. Cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin were among the drugs seized.
