PBR returns to Grande Prairie this weekend

Sep 27, 2024 | 3:26 PM

PBR’s Peace Country Invitational will take place tonight and tomorrow night at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.

Calgary’s Nick Tetz leads the PBR Canada standings.

“The crowd in Grande Prairie has always been pretty unreal except for the COVID year that we went up there in 2020 and nobody was allowed in except for maybe the sponsors.”

“It’s definitely one that you don’t want to miss, it being a cup event (with) extra points. It’s one that you definitely one you want to make sure you get to.”

We asked Tetz what the secret was to his success this year.

“To be completely honest, Cody Coverchuk, it looked like he was just going to run away with the championship. He had a pretty big lead on everybody. I just figured well, if I can make a run at him, try my best, just stay on my bulls, I might have a shot at being within striking distance when we get to the final.”

Tetz now leads the standings by three points.

Coverchuk is also among the riders competing in Grande Prairie this weekend after an injury in Lacombe earlier this year, as is 2023 winner Dakota Buttar and Dawson Creek product Auzyn Corr.

Tetz adds he doesn’t worry about the lead because “the standings fluctuate so much.”

“The mentality I’m going in with is I’m sitting 20th right now and I’ve got to punch my ticket to the final. That’s the mentality that I’m going to go in with for this event.”

Tetz says he want to “stick to having fun because winning is fun. As long as you’re having fun, the rest will take care of itself.”

Show time is 7 p.m. both nights The draw for Friday night can be found here.
