UPDATE: Suspect in custody after Whitecourt arson investigation

UPDATE:

Whitecourt RCMP say they located and arrested “a man who started a fire in the area East of Hilltop Industrial Park.”

In the release, they reminded the public “of the dangers of starting fires, especially open fires.”

Whitecourt RCMP is asking for the public’s help in two suspected arson investigations.

Two fires were reported eight days apart in the same area of the East Industrial Park, south of 41 Avenue and 30 Street.

The first was Thursday, April 17, then again on Friday, April 25; no residents or property were damaged by these fires, however, 19 hectares of land were burned before Whitecourt Fire crews, with help from Alberta Wildfire, were able to put them out.

At this time, residents with information regarding the April 17 or April 25 fires are asked to contact Whitecourt RCMP at 780-779-5900 or Crime Stoppers.
