Recall petition against MLA Dyck falls short of signatures needed

Feb 20, 2026 | 12:01 PM

Another recall petition in the province has not gathered enough signatures to kick a local politician out of their position in the Alberta legislature.

United Conservative MLA for Grande Prairie and Parliamentary Secretary for Indigenous and Rural Policing Nolan Dyck will not have to give up his job after the recall petition against him failed to garner enough signatures to get a recall vote.

Petition filer Casey Klein posted on her social media that the “Kick Dyck” campaign only collected 1,019 signatures in the 90-day time period to do so; accounting for 11 per cent of voters in the riding. Klein needed at least 60 per cent of voters in the last election or 9,427 signatures to trigger a recall vote.

She doesn’t call this a failed initiative in her post though, noting “More than a thousand people chose to step forward and have their voices heard. More than 25 people donated over $4,000 to help make this effort possible.”

Elections Alberta has not verified the results of the recall petition campaign, as it takes up to 21 days after the submission deadline, which was February 19, 2026. The results are to tentatively be posted by March 20, 2026, on the Elections Alberta website after complete verification and results are reported to MLA Dyck, Premier Danielle Smith, Legislative Speaker Ric McIver, and petitioner Klein.
