CALGARY, AB — A 56-year-old Calgary man has been arrested and charged with multiple offences following an investigation into alleged animal cruelty by the Calgary Humane Society.

Fred Brokop has been charged with one count of breaching a court order and 15 weapons-related charged in connection with the search Tuesday afternoon at a southwest Calgary residence.

Calgary Police assisted the Humane Society in executing the search warrant on the rural property, located in the 8300 block of 150 Avenue Southwest. Due to the possibility of weapons on the property, the Calgar Police service tactical team led in the execution of the warrant.

A total of 40 animals in distress, including dogs, cats birds and reptiles, were removed from the property and are being cared for by the Humane Society. A total of 20 long rifles were seized.
