Canada ‘A’ side to play Ontario Arrows in two-match exhibition series

May 4, 2018 | 4:30 PM

TORONTO — Canada ‘A’ will play the Ontario Arrows in a pair of games later this month to help Canada prepare for its June rugby internationals.

The Canada Selects will play the Arrows on May 18 at York University in Toronto and May 26 at Westhills Stadium in Langford, B.C.

The Arrows are a beefed-up version of the Ontario Blues, who play in the Canadian Rugby Championship. The investors behind the Arrows are determining whether it is feasible to enter a team in the new pro Major League Rugby circuit south of the border.

Canadian coach Kingsley Jones called the series against the Arrows “crucial” preparation for June test matches against Scotland, Russia and the U.S.

The Arrows, who host the Boston Mystics in their home opener Saturday at York University, are 2-1-1 in their exhibition season.

“This series is great for our guys and our program,” Arrows head coach Chris Silverthorn said in a statement. “The players will get a chance to test themselves against the Canadian carded athletes and see how and if they fit in.”
