Despite interest from other teams, Orlondo Steinauer staying with Tiger-Cats
Orlondo Steinauer will be back with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ coaching staff next season.
The CFL Club made the announcement Friday on Twitter after a source told The Canadian Press that the B.C. Lions and Toronto Argonauts asked the Ticats for permission to speak to Steinauer regarding their vacant head-coaching positions.
The Ticats did not say what Steinauer’s role will be in 2019. The 45-year-old was Hamilton’s assistant head coach under June Jones last season when he returned to the Ticats after one season as the defensive co-ordinator at Fresno State University.
Steinauer was Hamilton’s defensive co-ordinator from 2013-16 and had emerged as a leading CFL head-coaching candidate. But he headed to Fresno State last season as former CFL coach Jeff Tedford’s defensive co-ordinator.
