AIRDRIE, Alta. – Emergency medical officials confirm that one person is dead after a fiery crash involving a semi-trailer transport and a pickup truck on a busy highway just north of Calgary.

The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of Highway 2 near Airdrie.

The officials say both vehicles were engulfed in flame when crews arrived at the scene.

They say two people in the transport truck were not hurt.

There were extensive traffic delays and detours during the early morning commute as a result of the crash.

It was several hours before the debris could be hauled away.
