Changes for this year’s Agri-Show

Mar 7, 2019 | 4:30 AM

There will be some noticeable changes for the 34th Foster’s Peace Country Classic Agri-Show when it starts today at Evergreen Park.

The first is a new name as Foster’s Agri-World recently became a naming sponsor.

Show President Calvin Kirkham says the horse program has added medieval-themed presentations and skijoring, and changed its hours for today and tomorrow.

“Because of the acreage people, some of them work and some of the farmers work. We brought it to the board and we decided that we would extend the hours from Noon to 8 (p.m.), so there would be more people in the evening that could come to it, so I hope that works out.”

Regular show hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10-4 Saturday. The skijoring will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening outside the Lewis Hawkes Pavilion.

Exhibit space is sold out again this year.

Kirkham says a sell-out says a lot about the state of agriculture in this area.

“The economy isn’t that bad in agriculture if we could just get some shipping of the grain, which would mean quite a bit to the producers. The cattle prices are decent and I think they’re going to have a good sale. Close to 80 bulls (will be) sold at the show.”

The 15th Northern Classic Bull Sale is set for 1 p.m. Friday in the Drysdale Centre.

Kirkham thinks having the show at the same time as the Mighty Peace Teacher’s Convention should boost attendance.

“That always helps because kids are out of school, so they’ve got to (go) someplace. We also have the kid’s auction program this year again, which will be very helpful. We also have the petting zoo over in the Drysdale Centre.”

The kid’s auction is set for tomorrow. There will also be a kid’s zone in the Tara Centre.
