Grande Prairie Enforcement Services targeting excessive vehicle noise

May 5, 2025 | 7:00 AM

Grande Prairie Enforcement Services is stepping up efforts to address concerns with excessive vehicle noise.

Each spring, noise complaints caused by inadequate mufflers, modified equipment and disruptive driving behaviours increase, with 160 tickets issued for noise violations in Grande Prairie in 2024 alone.

To enhance enforcement GPES officers have received specialized training focused on modified exhaust systems and noise-related vehicle issues and will lead education and enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing disruptive vehicle noise.

Sergeant Ryan Hoffman says it important to remember that excessive noise can significantly disrupt neighbourhoods.

Under the City of Grande Prairie Bylaw C-1103C is it illegal to create or cause excessive unnecessary noise from a motor vehicle and violators can face a fine starting at $162.

Residents are encouraged to report noisy vehicles by contacting Enforcement Services at 780-830-5790 or by emailing es_contact@gppolice.com.
