Fundraiser in support of Las Vegas shooting victim exceeds expectations

Over $110,000 was raised in support of the Valleyview woman who died in the Las Vegas shooting in early October.  Jessica Klymchuk left behind four children. Klymchuk’s friend, Amanda Arnold spearheaded an online auction for them on Facebook.

“I, myself have three kids. I know how expensive it is to have active kids. She worked so hard to make sure they could do every sport they wanted to do and every after-school activity. I felt that they already lost their mom and they didn’t need to lose anything else.  I felt as a community we should be able to step up,” explained Arnold after a preliminary fundraising count on Tuesday evening.

Over 10 thousand members were added to the group from all over the world and over 400 donations came in to support the cause.

“It is insane. I had an initial goal of $15,000. It has been very humbling and it has really renewed some of our faith in humanity. No matter how much evil there is in the world, there is always ten times that in good.”

Donations came in from small businesses around the peace country and the province, but a few larger items were donated as well.  The Edmonton Oilers donated a jersey signed by the entire team, the Edmonton Eskimos donated tickets and a signed football, and Brett Kissell donated a V.I.P. package for his performance happening in Valleyview in March.

All the money raised goes into a Trust Fund at the ATB Financial branch in the victim’s hometown for her children to access. Donations are still being accepted at any ATB Financial location across the country.

Klymchuk was one of four Canadians killed in the shooting at a country music concert on October 1st.
