Grande Cache moving forward after mine closure

The Town of Grande Cache says it is moving forward after the recent mine closure despite a media outlet highlighting the town’s struggles.
In a press release, they said the town still represents a great place to live, work and recreate, with a diverse economic base.
“Our desire is to find a balance between developing our mountain tourism destination and creating a thriving, stable, resource-based economy. We envision a community that will have a robust, diversified, and sustainable economy, with a strong focus on tourism, organized events, endless outdoor recreation and adventure opportunities, and a healthy quality of life for our residents. We remain an untapped tourism destination, nestled along the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. We are one of the world’s last untouched wilderness areas. Grande Cache and area remain “a hidden gem” and it is time to proceed to enhance, promote and create tourism products that will continue to diversify our economy.”
Town officials are waiting for results from an economic viability review done by the government before they take next steps to improve their community.
