Local Co-op donating funding for self-care for front line opioid crisis workers

New Horizon Co-op wants to help local front-line workers during this opioid crisis.

The grocer has pledged to sponsor a once-per-month self-care activity for HIV North Society staff, according to the society’s Executive Director Melissa Byers.

“To help combat compassion fatigue, burn out and just generally help create a more connected community for front-line workers and a bigger support network for the people who are working in this crisis.”

She says it is much appreciated.

“As a non-profit organization, we don’t necessarily always have the funds to put self-care as a priority, especially with the changing needs of the opioid crisis right now,” explained Byers.

She says the staff is dealing with compassion fatigue, overdoses and death and the $300 a month will make a huge difference for them.

Byers adds they are going to extend an invitation to the self-care activity to other agencies in the community.
