Three vehicles involved in collision near Beaverlodge

UPDATE (8:30 a.m. Sat.): Highway 43 was re-opened just after midnight Saturday morning. 

A semi, pick-up truck, and car were involved in the collision early Friday evening.

RCMP have determined in preliminary investigation that at around 7:10 p.m. the semi was turning southbound on the highway when it was struck from behind by the car. The car then went into the northbound lanes of Highway 43 and was hit by the pick up truck that was driving north, according to a release from RCMP.

The driver of the car was taken from the scene by ground ambulance in critical condition. They were the only person in the vehicle.

Police say no other injuries were reported.

The collision remains under investigation and RCMP are looking at all possible factors for the cause.

(9:30 p.m. Fri.) Three vehicles were involved in a serious collision approximately three kilometres north of Beaverlodge.

RCMP say the vehicles collided at Highway 43 and Township Road 722 on Friday evening. Police also advise that traffic is being diverted around the area and drivers are asked to take a different route.

Police have not provided any more details.

More information is expected once it becomes available.
