Big Hearts for Big Kids sold out weeks before event

In a few weeks, Grande Prairie’s own Tenille Townes will be back for the ninth edition of Big Hearts for Big Kids.

The event that raises money for the Sunrise House has brought in more than $1,265,000 since the local songwriter and performer started the fundraiser when she was just 15.

“It’s such an important thing that we keep those doors open and available for kids to turn to in our hometown.  I’m just in complete awe of everyone’s incredible generosity to keep making that happen,” said Tenille Townes. “Year nine – that’s crazy! I can’t believe we have been doing this for nine years!

And for the first time, the event is completely sold out weeks before the artists will hit the stage.

“I wish we had more room to squeeze everyone in and put some tickets on sale,” she said. “We literally are at capacity, which is so wild.  That’s truly a testament to our incredible community that just keeps showing up year after year.”

This year’s Headliner is High Valley and the Songwriter’s Circle includes up and coming artist and writer Keelan Donovan, Tom Douglas, who has written songs like “The House That Built Me” and Barry Dean who is known for songs he has written for Ingrid Michaelson and Little Big Town, including “Pontoon”.

Last year’s event was the most successful yet, bringing in over $265,000 for the shelter.
