MEDICINE HAT, AB — Backlash is brewing against the Canadian band Hedley after allegations of sexual misconduct have surfaced online.

On Wednesday, the band released a statement denying the allegations, while the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) also announced the band is no longer performing at the Juno Awards on March 25 in Vancouver.

“After careful consideration of the situation and in discussions with the band, CARAS and Hedley have decided that the band will not be performing at the 2018 Juno Awards,” the organization said in a statement on Twitter.

Several women on social media have accused the band of sexual misconduct in recent days, with allegations that members of the band preyed on girls as young as 14 years old.

The band responded to the accusations through a statement on their social media pages.

“The recent allegations against us posted on social media are simply unsubstantiated and have not been validated,” the statement reads. “We would hope that people will bear-in-mind the context in which these unsupported accusations have been made before passing judgment on us as individuals or as a band.”

The band’s statement, which can be read in full below, says, “There was a time, in the past, when we engaged in a lifestyle that incorporated certain rock and roll clichés. However, there was always a line that we would never cross.”

Hedley is nominated for three Juno Awards this year, including the Fan's Choice Award.

CHAT News reached out to Universal Music Canada, Hedley’s label, who declined comment.

The band is still scheduled to perform at the Canalta Centre tonight.
