Spirit River RCMP say there is no risk to public safety after a suspected H2S gas leak Friday afternoon at a natural gas plant near Baytree.

The call about the leak came into RCMP around 1:30 p.m. Fire, industry safety personnel, and EMS also answered the call.

Police say a lot of people from the Alberta and B.C. sides of the Peace calling in, wondering if they needed to evacuate or take precautions.

A release from RCMP describes the leak as "a singular event" that "did not present an ongoing safety or health concern."

Amounts detected onsite were not found to have any of the gas at potentially dangerous levels.

An ongoing air quality monitoring is not finding any H2S.
