New Beaverlodge Hospital brought up in Legislature

Apr 20, 2018 | 7:49 AM

A local MLA asked the government about a new Beaverlodge hospital in the legislature this week.

GP Wapiti MLA Wayne Drysdale says he has been pushing for this for quite some time.

” For 10 years I have been advocating for my Beaverlodge and West County constituents who desperately need a new health facility. We would all like to see this project move along. The project was in the budget for previous years and now it is not. It’s not even on the unfunded list. To the Minister of Health, where is it today in your priorities. “

Health Minister Sarah Hoffman responded to the question by saying it was a “pretty rich” considering this question was coming from a former Minister of Infrastructure.

” We know it didn’t get built when he was the Minister of Infrastructure. We are continuing to work with the community and wanting to move this forward for all parts of the province. We know there are infrastructure needs across the province and we are happy to work with Beaverlodge. “

Drysdale continued by asking about the money which was set aside for the design of the rural health facilities which had been in past budgets.

He wanted to know whether it had been spent, or if there was anything to show from it.

Hoffman responded by saying the Government continues to work on plans with community leaders moving forward, and that renovations to the current hospital will be going ahead.
