Fire hazard climbing

The warm, dry weather means the wildfire hazard is climbing.
 
A fire advisory has been issued for the Peace River Forest Area. This does not impact current burn permits, but no new ones will be issued.
 
That area has one active fire. It burned 11 hectares and is under control.
 
Wildfire watchers are reminding people that the use of things like fireworks is restricted.
 
So is the use of exploding targets and tracer ammunition.
 
Officials in the Slave Lake Forest Area say a small grass fire that started Sunday was ignited by an exploding target (pictured).
 
People wanting to use things like these can check with their local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry office for more information.
 
The fire hazard is rated very high in the Slave Lake area.
 
A wildfire yesterday south of High Level forced the closure of Highway 35 for a short time. The High Level Forest Area has four active fires, the biggest of which burned 255 hectares. All are under control or being held.
 
The hazard is also very high in the Whitecourt Forest Area.  It has one active fire that has burned three hectares. It is under control and not close to any buildings.
