Province launches fire ban app

May 15, 2018 | 2:22 PM

A smartphone app has been launched in Alberta to inform people of fire bans, restrictions, and advisories.

Alberta Fire Bans will also help people plan their summer activities.

“It is vital that Albertans be aware of any bans or restrictions throughout the province if they intend to enjoy our beautiful backcountry. This mobile app gives Albertans another way to help prevent human-caused wildfires and keep our firefighters free to fight other wildfires that may occur,” said Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Oneil Carlier.

According to a media release, there have been 274 wildfires in Alberta Forest Protection Areas with 99 per cent of them caused by humans and entirely preventable.
