Canada wins opener, locals at Nationals

Canada’s women’s team beat Trinidad and Tobago three games to none in the opening match for both at volleyball’s Challenge Cup in Edmonton.
 
Beaverlodge’s Dani Smith is part of Team Canada.
 
Canada will play Trinidad and Tobago in its next game Saturday as well. Costa Rica had to drop out because of travel issues.
 
Playoff games will be played Sunday.
 
 

Local teams at Nationals

 A bunch of teenage volleyball players from the Peace are also in Edmonton for Volleyball Canada Nationals.
 
Five GPRC Wolves club teams are there, including Under-14 and Under-16 boys and girls teams, and an Under-15 girls squad.
 
Games will run through Tuesday.
 
The five local teams are among 864 clubs from across the country taking part.
